Mercedes ADAS Technologies
Mercedes has a wide range of ADAS technologies you may encounter. Here are just a few.
Active Brake Assist
Using radar-based technology, Active Brake Assist alerts drivers if they get too close to vehicles, pedestrians, or stationary objects. If the driver brakes, the system automatically applies the appropriate amount of brake pressure. If the driver fails to hit the brakes, Active Brake Assist can automatically brake.
Trailer Stability Assist
Trailer Stability Assist works with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) to check for trailer sway and uses the vehicle’s front brakes, when necessary, to help stabilize the vehicle and trailer.
PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist
Active Parking Assist looks for available parking spaces on either side of the vehicle. Once a spot is chosen, the system can steer, shift, and brake to pull into or back out of the space. Additionally, PARKTRONIC sensors in the front and rear bumpers help detect objects and alert the driver.
Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR)
When traveling under 20 mph on a steep off-road incline, Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) can maintain a downhill crawl at a fixed speed between 1 and 11 mph by automatically applying the brakes. The speed is adjustable, and the driver can also override the system by pressing the brake or accelerator pedal.
Crosswind Assist
At highway speeds, Crosswind Assist helps detect the effects of strong side winds on handling stability using information supplied by the vehicle’s Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), electric suspension sensors, and power steering. It uses strategic braking of the wheels on one side of the vehicle and adjustments to the adaptive AIRMATIC® suspension to help keep the vehicle on track.
Surround View System
The Surround View System uses cameras in all four directions. When the vehicle is at low speeds, a single overhead view of the immediate surroundings shows on the central in-dash screen, helping drivers avoid obstacles in tight spaces.
