Advanced Driver Assistance Systems come standard in modern vehicles and serve a variety of different purposes to help improve safety and functionality.

forward collision warning

FORWARD COLLISION WARNING

In an FCW system, the vehicle monitors its speed, the speed of the vehicle in front of it, and the distance between the two vehicles to warn the driver of a possible collision.

automatic emergency braking

AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

These systems work in tandem with sensors in the front of the vehicle to detect impending collisions and then automatically brake if the driver isn’t able to do so in time.

Adaptive Cruise Control

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

Also called autonomous cruise control, these systems are responsible for automatically adjusting cruise control speed in order to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles ahead.

lane departure warning

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING

A lane departure warning system is designed to alert drivers when they accidentally drift into other lanes without signaling.

lane keeping assist

LANE KEEPING ASSIST

This feature works alongside the lane departure warning system to assist drivers with staying in the proper lane and helps gently steer them back in the right direction should they need it.

blind spot monitoring

BLIND SPOT MONITORING

By using sensors on the outside of a vehicle, these systems will alert the driver when they detect vehicles that are in the adjacent lanes behind them.

rear cross traffic alert

REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT

These systems usually activate once a vehicle is put in Reverse and are there to give the driver auditory or visual warning signals if they detect anything too close to the rear bumper.

parking assist/self-parking

PARKING ASSIST/SELF-PARKING

Parking assistance systems utilize sensors on the front, back, and sides of the vehicle to identify a parking spot and help the driver track the vehicle’s position as they park.

adaptive headlights - steering

ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS - STEERING

These systems are designed to increase safety and visibility around curves as well as over hills by turning the lights to better focus their beam ahead.

automatic high-beam & dimming

AUTOMATIC HIGH-BEAM & DIMMING

When approaching another vehicle with high beams on, these systems kick in to automatically switch to low beams so other drivers aren’t accidentally blinded.

When Is Adas Calibration Needed?

When certain parts of a vehicle are repaired or replaced, ADAS functionality is often affected and requires calibration in order to work again properly. Doing so requires specialized equipment and training that most collision shops and auto mechanics simply don’t possess. Check out our FAQs for more info on when ADAS calibration is necessary.
